RECYCLING AT EXPOL
Here at EXPOL we are proud to be managing our impact on the planet by recycling both our own and other waste polystyrene in New Zealand. Turning old products into new in a true closed loop system. Reducing landfill and repeatedly reusing base material.

EXPOL Polystyrene Recycling
HOUSEHOLD POLYSTYRENE RECYCLING
The Household Polystyrene Recycling Programme is available at selected hardware stores throughout New Zealand.
We have more than 25 outlets where consumers can drop their household polystyrene waste for recycling.
We accept:
- Household quantities: Up to 2 full rubbish bags.
- Clean polystyrene: No dirt, food waste or residue, no stickers or tape.
Once collected the household polystyrene is turned into new EXPOL products.
All of EXPOL's factories are 0 waste.
75% of EXPOL products (by volume) contain recycled content.
We recycle 500 tons of polystyrene a year, or 4,000 cubic metres each month.
The EXPOL Household Polystyrene Recycling Programme recycles 1,000 cubic metres of consumer polystyrene waste each month.
Did you know that 98% of polystyrene is actually trapped air? This means the amount of raw material required is minimal.
EXPOL has 7 manufacturing plants nationwide each containing a polystyrene recycling centre.
RECYCLING
The key initiative in our commitment to the environment is the process of recycling of polystyrene in New Zealand. We recycle 500 tons of polystyrene a year through our 7 recycling plants nationwide!
In a true closed loop system this recycled product is used to create brand new EXPOL products which are also recyclable.
THE EXPOL RECYCLING PROCESS
The recycling process takes the polystyrene to be recycled and breaks it down in pieces of polystyrene that then can be made introduced into products we manufacture.
We also produce blocks of recycled polystyrene which are then used to manufacture EXPOL StyroDrain a 100% recycled drainage board.

EXPOL WASTE COLLECTION AND TRACKING APP
In order to support our various recycling programmes we have developed the EXPOL Live App to make arranging polystyrene waste collections quicker and easier than ever before. The EXPOL Live App is available on both the App Store and Google Play.
Simply search for EXPOL Live and download to your device.
We are keen to encourage users to use the EXPOL Live App when booking collections as it is quicker, easier and less time consuming than ordering via email or the phone. It will reduce errors and the time it takes to enter these orders manually. Additionally, users can see the status of their orders with EXPOL, reducing the need to call / email us for an ETA.
